Set amidst an open and leafy campus in Labourdonnais village, Northfields is one of the most well-known schools in Mauritius. We provide an all-round English-medium education for just over 390 boys and girls aged 9-18. Athletics, always so much fun! The day was sizzling and extremely vivid, everyone was cheering excessively at their stands. All three houses participated and performed extremely, exceptionally and fantastically well.
When I was watching the races I could see that everyone was trying their best. I was completely astonished by everyone, they did extremely well.
Eagles came in first place, Phoenix second and Dolphins third. We thank everyone that helped organised this amazing athletics day, it was definitely successful.

On Athletics Day, there was great participation from all categories. Most of us came in and some even complained that there were not enough events for everyone! Throughout the day there was a lot of support from Kai and Tejas. Despite them being in the younger years of the school, they loudly supported all day. Due to the exams taking place many juniors were missing. Max and Noah were quite brave to have done many of the events to fill in the blanks. The junior girls were supported by 4 young Benjamin girls brave enough to move up and participate in the junior category. These were Tegan, Maria, Tayyibah and Krystina. Krystina made an outstanding effort for the 100 metres in the junior category, and came first in that race. The relays were quite tough but we managed to come second in most of the relay races. Towards the end of the relays it seemed as though we were destined not to win any of them, but we finally made it in the final race. Our Junior mixed team won convincingly and so we ended the day on a high. Two of our team members won second and third for Victrix L.. These were Hannah B. and Kimberley R.. To sum up, we finished second overall which is an excellent effort. Well done to Phoenix! Also congratulations to the winning team Eagles, but watch out for us next year!
Coralie L. - Phoenix
Northfields Athletics Day 2017 was a fantastic event bringing Northfields students of all ages together and participating as one for our teams. It was great to see the true spirit of our school, aside the academics and to commend the variety of talented pupils we have here at NIHS. The competition this year was tough but with the great support from our team and the amazing athletes we have, Eagles won and took home the cup! Yet again, we strived for victory and did so successfully. The commitment, enthusiasm and the desire for success this year was high and I think it played a big part on the results from Athletics Day. It was a day that will be in our hearts forever; all the fun and competition. And so, on behalf of the students, I would like to thank everyone that made it so successful – teachers, staff, parents and students.

On 30th April, 21 students and teachers braved the weather conditions and entered the water at Pereybere beach to participate in the Nando’s 1.6 km open water swim.
A range of students took part, from Year 5 to Year 12. We met bright eyed, in most cases, at 8am to receive our race packs. Each competitor had a cap with the race number printed on it. As a team we had our sights firmly set on winning the school challenge, to have more finishers than any other school. Some of the swimmers, who are more experienced in open water swimming also had an eye on the individual prizes. Swimmers warmed up and were admirably supported by parents and siblings.
The start was a little chaotic with over 200 swimmers running in at once but as the crowds cleared we got into our strokes and surged ahead. The current and wind was a little tricky on the return to the beach at the end of the swim but I was incredibly proud of all swimmers who persevered until the end.
Northfields Open Water Swim squad won the school challenge, receiving a cheque for 10,000 rupees that was presented in assembly on Monday 15th May by representatives of Nandos. I look forward to even more swimmers joining us next year, some may even swim with Mr Relet in the 3.8 km swim!

The Swimming Gala by Jayden R.- 7V
The Swimming Gala- Always so much fun! The races were really fun to watch and all the houses were cheering really loudly. The atmosphere of the gala was wonderful with loads of cheering and fun. This year was the first time that Phoenix has won the gala. Eagles came second and Dolphins in third place. It was a very bright and sunny day, which was perfect.
Thank you to all the teachers and students who helped organise the Swimming Gala and who also helped during the actual gala. Well done to all participants.
